Owner Bob McClean established Custom Coatings after working for more then 11 years at North End Marine (now Back Cove Yachts), a world-renowned fiberglass tooling company.  While there he spent much of his time managing, applying and quality controlling the final finishing of complex tools for other companies to produce their boats.  He learned a broad spectrum of finishing processes in a high end evolving market.

   Custom Coatings Inc. engineers and executes the fairing and finishing on the majority of Lyman Morse new construction yachts, as well as a variety of service yard boats, working primarily with the Awl-Grip system.

   Bob and his crew have worked on a number of projects, both local and worldwide, including art projects for Clowes Sculpture, which can be seen at the Verizon Sports Center in Manchester NH, UConn, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and other commercial institutions around the country.  They have assisted other companies such as Hodgdon Yachts, Juliet Marine, Jeff’s Marine, Rockport Marine, Front Street Shipyard, Sabre Yachts, Ocean Pursuits etc as well as local fishermen and private yacht owners.  They have finished high-end indoor and outdoor furniture, as well as automotive and commercial coatings.

   Our ever-evolving economy has changed the Boating industry where older crafts are being resurrected. We have done a lot of refits, modifications and face lifts on a variety of boats of all sizes in recent years.
